Funding: Community-Based Projects for Seniors
Community-based projects under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) that enable seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences with others, and help communities increase their capacity to address local issues, are eligible to receive up to $25,000 per year, per organization.
Projects must address one or more of the program's five objectives:
Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities
Economic Action Plan 2013 proposes to maintain ongoing funding of $40 million per year starting in 2015-16 for the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities.
This complements Budget 2012 where the Government invested an additional $30 million over three years (2012-2015) in the Fund to help more Canadians with disabilities obtain work experience with small and medium-sized businesses.
It also helps ensure employers are aware of the invaluable contribution people with disabilities can make to their business and the Canadian economy.
The Government also established the Panel on Labour Market Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities which reported on private-sector successes and best practices for their participation in the labour market.
About the Program
Through the Opportunities Fund, the Government is taking action to break down barriers that prevent Canadians with disabilities from reaching their full potential.
Support is provided for local, regional and national projects to assist people with disabilities who have little or no labour force attachment to prepare for, obtain and keep jobs or to become self-employed, thereby increasing their economic participation and independence.
Who Is Eligible
How It Works
Funding for local and regional projects helps organizations create projects involving eligible activities.
Through these projects, recipient organizations deliver eligible activities to individuals.
Funding for national projects helps organizations create projects that provide or improve employment services and increase the labour market participation of people with disabilities across Canada.
Through national projects, recipient organizations deliver eligible activities to individuals in various regions.
Progress to Date
Through the Opportunities Fund, the Government of Canada served over 5,400 clients in 2011-2012.
